Phil Kassel

Executive Director of the Mental Health Legal Advisors Committee

Phillip Kassel is the Executive Director of the Mental Health Legal Advisors Committee, an independent state agency of the Supreme Judicial Court that provides legal and policy advocacy for persons with mental illness throughout the Commonwealth.  For more than 35 years, he’s provided legal representation to the most vulnerable segments of the poor person populations of the states of Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Washington; litigating, lobbying, and negotiating reforms important to a wide variety of clients; frequently including those with mental illness. Phil was previously the Advocacy Director at South Coastal Counties Legal Services and served as Senior Compliance Director for the Office of English Language Learners of the Boston Public Schools. Phil is also an accomplished singer and the author of numerous cabaret shows performed in venues around the Boston area and central Massachusetts.
